San Carlos de Bariloche was founded on May, 1902 on the shores of the Nahuel Huapi lake in the province of Río Negro. The city stands out for its architectural features and for being located in a priviledged region due to the beauty of its landscapes made up of mountains, woods, lakes, glaciers, and an exuberant flora. Tourism, both national and international, is the main economic activity of Bariloche, all year around. The main ski station is the one at Cerro Catedral. During the summer, beautiful beaches such as Playa Bonita and Villa Tacul welcomes sun-bathers and some brave lake swimmers. The various tourist circuits in Bariloche include sites like Puerto Pañuelo, Puerto Blest, Los Alerces Cascade, Mount Cerro Catedral, Mount Tronador, Mount Cerro Lopez, Moreno Lake, Nahuel Huapi, Mascardi Lake.
Activities: Short Circuit This is a trip that skirts the lake Nahuel Huapi by the south bank toward the west of the city visiting: Bonita Beach (kilometer 8), Serena Beach (kilometer 12), tele-seat of hill Campanario (kilometer 17) from where it is enjoyed the most beautiful view in the area, the imposing Llao Llao hotel, Pañuelos port, and the traditional Swiss Colony. Isla Victoria The trip start in the city heading to Puerto Pañuelos and after 30 minutes of sailing it arrives to Puerto Anchorena in the island Victoria, the biggest in the lake Nahuel Huapi. There there is a tele-seat that takes the tourists to the balcony of the hill Bella Vista. The island has native forest and fauna species. After another sailing tract you arrive to the peninsula Quetrihué where there is a path of 600 meters planked and stepped that allows the journey by the forest of arrayanes..... Lakes Crossing The trip begins in the city, being transferred to Puerto Pañuelos, embarking to Puerto Blest, the western end of one of the arms of the lake Nahuel Huapi. From there to Puerto Alegre by bus where a catamaran leaves traveling the beautiful lake Frías until Puerto Frías. There you'll enter chilean territory arriving by bus to Peulla in the east end of the lake ‘Todos los Santos’. You navigate by that lake toward the west until arriving to Petrohué, and then by bus skirting the beautiful south margin of the lake Llanquihue you arrives to Puerto Varas and Puerto Montt. Horse riding Bariloche, amid the patagonian steppes, is an extraordinary place. The best way of knowing this fascinating land is on horseback... On all-day rides, you can see guanacos, wild horses, nandues, and all sorts of birds flying over the lakes which are sprinkled across this vast plateau which impressed charles darwin so much. On horseback you will observe flamingoes, black-neck swans, wild geese and ducks, and you will discover the magnetism of a journey across the patagonian steppes. Bariloche offers the possibility of going on short rides designed for families, which are always led by professional guides.
